On Thursday 18th December 2014, Owino Solutions hosted Facebook Inc.’s first ever Politics and Government Training in Sub-Saharan Africa!

The lunchtime session at the Serena Hotel was led by Elizabeth Linder, Facebook’s Politics & Government Specialist EMEA Region, who flew in especially from Facebook’s London office and Ebele Okobi, Facebook’s new Head of Public Policy Africa who is trailblazing a new path to ensure that Facebook’s potential makes a significant impact on the Continent. Ms. Linder colourfully described a range of effective campaign strategies ensuring Facebook Page legitimacy and transparency (including verification processes) and talked about the exciting launch of the new Q & A Product for verified accounts.

Invited guests in attendance spanned across the political spectrum from Government to Opposition. The organising team is thankful to the social media team of HE President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni; Democratic Party (DP) President Norbert Mao; Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Spokesperson John Kikonyogo; Jalia Bintu – Woman Representative for Masindi district in parliament and Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) Executive Director Jennifer Musisi among others — not only for attending but for so enthusiastically and insightfully engaging in discussions about how to leverage Facebook to encourage transparency and citizen engagement in the democratic process. The attendees were the pioneers of such a discussion in Sub-Saharan Africa — and as such make Uganda proud!
